About Carry On Costumes

The company’s founder Sue Simmerling has been working within the industry since 1979 starting her career onboard P&O Canberra as one of the first costumiers to introduce production shows to P&O ships. 38 years later Carry on Costumes are still providing musical theatre costumes across the fleet.

Carry on Costumes now have a much broader client profile, working with many production companies across the UK. We are renowned for our wonderfully eccentric pantomime costumes and have worked with lots of well known dames including Christopher Biggins, Paul O’Grady and Matthew Kelly, to name a few! We like to work closely with production companies to produce eye-catching costumes that suit their individual pantomime, while maintaining the traditional glitz and glamour that audiences adore.

Sue and her team have also been working with Michael Rose since 2007 and during that time have designed and created costumes for Cinderella, Aladdin and Peter Pan as well as creating and supervising costumes for Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Santa Claus, Monkee Business, Elf the musical and Big the musical.

Throughout the years Carry On have worked in television too, making costumes for pop videos, adverts and game shows.

Our experience across these different entertainment platforms has given us extensive knowledge on what is expected of costumes and the best way to manufacture them. We make our costumes to last, ensuring each garment is robust enough to withstand the run of the show and providing alteration points, wherever possible, with future use in mind.
